Martin Margiela's Spring/Summer 1990 womenswear show for Maison Martin Margiela took place at Paris Fashion week. For this collection Margiela defied tradition and chose a derelict playground on the outskirts of Paris as the show's location. Seating was offered on a first-come-first-served basis and local children filled the front row. The show included garments that, although wearable, fell on the more abstract, fantastical, and artistic side of clothing. These were executed in natural tones and colors, and so could be incorporated into a wardrobe with ease. The models themselves walked down a dirt path and had to push themselves through the crowded audience. Accessories included white platform shoes; make-up included white eyeshadow; and hair was worn in messy up-dos.
